wall decor

Yesterday I was sitting in bed, under my blanket, trying not to freeze.  I had already been domestic enough for the day and my work was pretty much finished.

Now that my bedroom is painted, I hate that the walls are blank.  But, particularly the wall above the headboard.  I was in search of something that I could do with things around the house.  So, onward to Pinterest!

I had pinned this project a few weeks back.  And, for the past few months, I have been saving tons of these:

While sitting in bed, I turned those toilet paper rolls into these:

Add some glue and a brush to the mix and these are what I came up with.

Now, I didn't open the link to the project on Pinterest.  I should have to see how she painted the tubes.  I only bought one can of spray paint and sprayed them AFTER I glued them together.  Let me tell you, that was NOT successful!

I wasn't going to go get another can of paint, so I looked to see what I had that might work.  I had a big jar of mod podge and some paint.  I put a tad bit of blue and a squirt of green into the mod podge.  Then, I pain-stakingly painted all of these creations!  PAIN IN THE BUTT!

I think I like how they turned out.  They are a bit darker than I had wanted.  Oh well!  They will do.

Hanging them on the wall just now was not fun.  I think they aren't exactly straight, but they will do.

It fills the space over the bed and that was the point.  This DIY stuff is really for the birds!

Thanks! I do really like them. I would have never thought up the idea on my own, though! Love Pinterest!

Janny, Monica will think I am crazy as always! :)

Those look so good, Val! And from the photos, the spray paint looks like a patina. I'm impressed (as always)!

Valarie, I just LOVE this project!!! I really do! It turned out great! I also have a bag of toilet papaer rolls...about 30 rolls. Do you know more or less how many you used?

Thanks, everyone! I do agree that they don't really look like they were tp rolls.

Jackie, the picture of all the rolls were how many I had. I would say there were 25 to 30 there. Each roll I cut into 4 parts. If you cut them ainto 5, of course you could stretch them a little further.

You are so freakin' crafty!!! Those are the cutest wall decorations. If you hadn't let us in on your little secret, I never would have guessed that those were TP rolls. :P

I love the color of your walls and the decorations!

I've read about "modge pod" on other blogs, but what is it? Glue? So do you recommend painting the rolls before cutting them? I really want to do this when I return to Mexico, but if I need to buy any supplies while I'm in California I'm going to do it.

I LOVE the decorations and also, would have never guessed it was toilet paper rolls!
I have only just recently found Pinterest, thanks to Leslie from Motherhood in Mexico. I am now waiting on my invitation.

Jackie, I sent you an email explaining the mod podge and such. Just wanted to let you know!

Those look great Valerie. I'm going to try that too, my walls are so bare. Were you supposed to paint them first?

Jennifer, I sent an email to Jackie and said that I was OK to paint them after I glued them all. The problem was that I only bought one can of spray paint. I should have bought at least 1 or 2 more cans because you have to spray the outside AND inside of each "petal". The cardboard just didnt' take the paint as well as I thought it would. But, I ended up painting with a paint brush. It worked OK, just took some extra time.
